A Memory
Before my fifth birthday, I spent a lot of time with my Grandpa Don. We would sit together in his blue recliner for hours eating canned oysters and sweet onions while watching Blue's Clues. On the nicest days, Grandpa would take me on the four-wheeler. We would ride along the river for miles with the wind and sun on our faces. I distinctly remember being overwhelmed with excitement when that little button on the four-wheeler went from black to green.
I would squeal with glee as my blonde curls covered my eyes. When we finished our ride, he would smoke a cigarette on the porch near the lilac bushes while I played with the wild kitties.
In the sweetest morning meditations, I always find myself pondering these days of my childhood spent with my greatest hero.
